Terrigal Haven

Terrigal Haven

Terrigal Haven is a dynamic, magical place and my favourite spot in Terrigal.

The iconic Skillion, which you can climb to the top for panoramic views, is located there.

If you want a beach with calm water, salty air, panoramic views, and a sense of infinite space, this is a perfect place to spend a few hours or more.

It's located on Broken Head, the parcel of land that sticks out into the sea.

Terrigal Haven has no residential houses…

…but you’ll find restaurants and cafes (overlooking the ocean of course!), the Skillion, great lookouts, an oval (home of the Terrigal Trojans), fishing charters, and a calm beach.

From dawn to dusk, the place is filled with people exercising in the water or on land, or simply enjoying the place.

In the water you can kayak, stand up paddle board, dive, snorkel, fish, and swim. If you’re skilled you can surf off at the point when the surf is big.

On land you can run around the oval, walk, exercise in boot camps, walk the dog (there’s an off-leash area), and sightsee along the elevated parts of the headland and lookouts.

On the oval you can chase the ball or catch a game of rugby on a Saturday afternoon in a family friendly atmosphere with a sausage sizzle.

I love the energy that fills Terrigal Haven…

But what keeps bringing me back to this parcel of land is the relaxing beach and the beautiful vista of boats moored in the bay.

Since the waves are tiny, the beach is popular with families with small children.

We have often come to this beach and ended the day eating fish and chips outdoors while our kids walked on the rocks and sand.

From the beach, walk across the oval to the popular Skillion, which steeply rises. You can climb the Skillion to the lookout at the top. Stairs make the climb easy and quick.

From the lookout you get an amazing view of Avoca Beach to the south…

… and Wamberal to the north…

The local’s secret way for children to descend the Skillion is to roll down on the grass ;-)

Best Time to Visit

It's a beautiful spot, but it gets very crowded during summer holidays and long weekends. Broken Head is less magical when you have to search a long time for a parking. So arrive early in the morning or outside summers and long weekends.
